Andson Biotech Secures $2 Million NIH SBIR Phase II Award to Advance Automated DynaChip™ for Biotherapeutic Characterization

Atlanta, GA — September 28, 2026 —Andson Biotech, a pioneer in online sample preparation innovation, has been awarded a $2 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The funding will support development and commercialization of the company’s automated DynaChip™ platform, a next-generation system designed to expand access to advanced mass spectrometry techniques for biotherapeutic characterization.

Biotherapeutics are among the fastest-growing segments of the pharmaceutical industry, offering transformative treatments for diseases including cancer and genetic disorders. As these therapies become increasingly complex, manufacturers require more advanced analytical tools to assess critical quality attributes that impact safety, efficacy, and regulatory success.

The Phase II award builds on the success of Andson’s commercially available DynaChip X1™ platform, which currently leverages customers’ existing HPLC and UPLC autosamplers for automated sample injection. The funded project will accelerate development of a fully automated DynaChip™ platform with an integrated autosampler, creating a standalone system for high-throughput native mass spectrometry (nMS) and charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS) workflows. The Phase II program will also support development of next-generation microfluidic devices engineered for enhanced selectivity, more efficient sample processing, and application-specific workflow optimization. Together, the platform and consumables will provide an integrated solution for routine characterization of increasingly complex biologics while maintaining the data quality required for critical development and manufacturing decisions.

“This $2 million Phase II award represents a major milestone for Andson Biotech and validates our vision for transforming how advanced biotherapeutics are analyzed,” said Mason Chilmonczyk, CEO and Co-Founder of Andson Biotech. “Our current DynaChipTM platform has demonstrated the value of automated microfluidic sample preparation with customers’ existing LC-MS infrastructure. This funding allows us to accelerate development of a fully automated, standalone DynaChipTM platform while advancing next-generation microfluidic devices that improve analytical performance and expand application capabilities. Together, these innovations will make advanced characterization techniques easier to adopt, enabling deeper molecular insights and faster development of life-changing therapies.”

Mass spectrometry remains the gold standard for biotherapeutic characterization, yet advanced techniques such as nMS and CDMS are often limited by complex workflows and labor-intensive sample preparation. The technologies developed through this Phase II program are expected to streamline these processes, reduce analytical bottlenecks, improve data quality, and lower operating costs.

“Advanced characterization methods such as native MS and charge detection MS provide critical molecular information that has historically been difficult to industrialize and implement in high-throughput settings,” said Casey Vantucci, Ph.D., Director of Applications Science and Principal Investigator at Andson Biotech. “With support from the NIH, we are developing technology that makes these capabilities more accessible, allowing scientists to better understand complex biotherapeutics and accelerate therapeutic development.”

The $2 million SBIR Phase II award reinforces Andson Biotech’s commitment to advancing mass spectrometry innovation. By enabling deeper molecular understanding through faster and more scalable workflows, the automated DynaChipTM platform has the potential to accelerate drug development, improve product quality, and expand patient access to transformative medicines.
